Lofoten (Evenes) is a named collection point at Evenes, by Harstad/Narvik Airport, on the mainland.

It is not a depot in Svolvær, Å or Reine. When you collect the campervan here you still have to drive into Lofoten, west through Ofoten and onto the islands by the bridges, on roads that are narrow, spectacular and slower than the kilometre count. Mountain weather and winter closures sit between the handover and the first fishing village.

A Bodø ferry arrival, by contrast, enters the archipelago at the western end. Evenes enters from the east. Driving is on the right. The parentheses in the name are the instruction: Evenes is where the keys change hands.

A few things worth knowing

Treat Evenes as the start line and book night one within a sensible distance, perhaps before you are deep in the islands. You can move further west the next morning in daylight.
