Plan your pickup and your first stop
Bodø is a coastal city just north of the Arctic Circle, and its campervan role is the entrance to the north.
The car ferry toward Moskenes is the classic way onto the western end of Lofoten, a sailing of several hours that must include the vehicle. The road alternative runs a long way around via the mainland bridges and arrives at the other end of the archipelago. Midnight sun and polar night split the year. Saltfjorden weather decides whether a simple plan still feels simple at the dock.
Driving is on the right. Collecting in Bodø is not the same depot as Evenes, which sits inland toward Harstad and Narvik, and not the same city as Tromsø. A handover here is the town collection, not every harbour shed.
Book the ferry for the van on a departure you can make after handover, and protect the connection. Missing it does not leave you a quick alternate bridge.
If you are driving the long way instead, treat that as a mainland day of its own, with fuel and a site, not as a shortcut you invent at the dock.
In winter, daylight is the schedule. Fuel in town, drive on the right, and keep the first night modest if the weather on the fjord is up.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
