Tromsø is an Arctic city on an island, reached by bridge and tunnel, with a compact centre and a mountain behind it.

A campervan collected in town is a base for the dark-season northern lights or for midnight-sun drives in summer, including the short hop toward Sommarøy. Senja lies south, by bridge or ferry depending on the route. Alta and the North Cape are not a scenic extra; they are a serious northern distance with weather attached.

The airport is on the island and has its own page. Driving is on the right. A city handover means harbour streets and Arctic weather, not the mainland interior at Evenes. It is one depot, not every street in the centre.

A few things worth knowing
