ROOM FOR YOUR KIND OF TRIP
Think about who is coming and how you like to travel. Check sleeping spaces, travel seats, kitchen equipment and luggage storage when choosing your campervan.
Plan your pickup and your first stop
Venice is a car-free city, and a campervan is still a car with a kitchen.
The historic islands, the Grand Canal and the lanes behind San Marco have no role for your vehicle. Piazzale Roma is the road’s dead end, a place of garages and a turnaround you should not experiment with in a motorhome. The working pattern is mainland: sleep in Mestre’s outer edges or further out on the Brenta, or toward the northern lagoon, and cross as a passenger.
The van’s own sightseeing is the mainland. The Brenta villas, the flat country toward Treviso, and the beach resorts of Jesolo and Cavallino, which do understand campers, are real drives. The Dolomites are a longer commitment north. None of them requires you to approach St Mark’s by road, because you cannot. Accept that on the first evening and the trip becomes easy.
Book the mainland night before you sightsee. Crossing back tired, with no pitch, is the Venetian mistake.
Use the tram, bus or people-mover from a sensible mainland stop. Do not join the queue of vehicles at the lagoon bridge in a motorhome “just to see”.
If you drive the Brenta, the villas are visits and the towpath is not a road. Park where the geometry works and walk the last metres along the water.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
