Plan your pickup and your first stop
Valencia turned its old riverbed into the Turia gardens, a long park you walk or cycle, not a campervan bypass.
The historic centre north of that green trench is for pedestrians, and the City of Arts on the east end is a visit, not a drive-through. The vehicle’s best local day is south: the Albufera lagoon, rice fields, and a flat approach that feels like a smaller cousin of the Ebro delta. North, the Costa del Azahar is an easier shore than the Costa Brava’s cliff endings.
The city sits between the meseta and the sea, which is useful and tempting. You can be in the hills toward Requena in one direction or in a rice village in the other, and neither route needs the old town. Sleep outside the centre, come in along the gardens on foot, and let the lagoon be the night if you want the van’s own view.
The river gardens are not a road, even though they run where a map once showed water and now shows green. Cross the city on the ordinary ring.
The Albufera has protected edges. Use the visitor roads and the designated stops, and do not invent a pitch on a rice track because the water is pink at dusk.
Summer humidity on the lagoon is different from dry heat on the meseta. Ventilate the van, and expect mosquitoes in the warm months.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
