Hiring a campervan in Alicante

Alicante faces the Costa Blanca under the rock of Santa Bárbara, a dry, bright city whose Explanada and old streets are a walking morning.

The campervan is clumsy on the seafront and useful the moment you leave it: north along the coast toward Altea, which tightens, or inland to the reservoirs and the perched village of Guadalest. The climate is the opposite of Galicia. Shade, not a raincoat, is the daily tool.

The airport sits south of the city and is its own handover story. This is the city. Sleep outside the castle hill, shop in the ordinary avenues, and do not try to combine a beach hour, a castle climb and a mountain village in the same hot afternoon with an unfamiliar van.

A few things worth knowing

  1. 01

Leave the Explanada and the castle approaches to your feet. A pin on the marina is not an invitation for a motorhome.

  2. 02

The Guadalest road is popular and narrow near the top. Go in the morning and stop where the vehicle still fits, even if the postcard is a walk further.

  3. 03

August saturates the coast. A pitch booked inland, with a morning swim, is calmer than a search along the front at five.
