Hiring a campervan in San Sebastián

San Sebastián curves La Concha between two hills, with Parte Vieja packed against the harbour in a grid of pintxo bars that is pedestrian in practice and often in law.

A campervan does not taste its way through those streets. The city is a walk, a swim, and a view from Monte Urgull or Igueldo that you reach without towing the kitchen up a residential hill. The drives are the Basque coast toward France or Bilbao, and the inland valleys, green and frequently wet.

This is not the meseta and not a Balearic cove. The border at Hendaye is close enough that a scenic afternoon can become an international one. Sleep outside the bay’s tight end, in a place with a turning circle, and come back to the promenade when the van is already settled.

A few things worth knowing

  1. 01

Parte Vieja is not a drop-off you invent in the moment with a motorhome blocking the harbour lane. Walk in from a stop outside.

  2. 02

Igueldo’s road is a hill with a view and a queue. If your vehicle is large, admire the bay from the promenade instead.

  3. 03

If the day continues into France, carry the documents and know the low-emission habits of the next city before you cross for a casual loop.
