Hiring a campervan in Palma de Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca faces a wide bay under a cathedral, and the whole island sits a sea crossing away from the Spanish meseta.

You arrive by vehicle ferry from Barcelona, Valencia or Dénia, or you fly and collect a van that is already here. There is no road from Madrid. The old town and the seafront arcades are walking ground. A campervan leaves the bay for the plain, the east-coast coves where the road still allows it, or the Serra de Tramuntana, whose Ma-10 is narrow, famous, and a poor match for a long motorhome.
Formentor’s cape road is often regulated in the busy season and should not be a promise. The island is small and the days are short if you keep stopping. Sleep outside Palma’s centre, use the city for the morning market and the cathedral, and give the mountains a daylight window of their own.
A few things worth knowing
- 01
If you sail, match the booking to the van’s height and length, and exit Palma’s port toward a known pitch rather than toward the cathedral.
- 02
Do not follow a scenic route onto the Ma-10 in a vehicle you would hesitate to reverse. Viewpoints are short, and the stone walls are close.
- 03
Summer rules on capes and old fishing towns change the possible map. Read them for your week, and keep the fallback on the plain, where a motorhome can still turn around.
