Lleida stands on the Segre in inland Catalonia, a city of orchards and a dry brightness that already feels closer to the Ebro depression than to Barcelona’s sea.
The Seu Vella, the old cathedral, occupies a hill you walk. The campervan crosses the fruit plain easily and then, if you choose the mountains, follows the Noguera valleys toward the Aigüestortes country, where the roads shrink and the last villages are for smaller vehicles and for hikers.
This is a hinge between the open interior and the high valleys, not an island and not a beach. Summer on the plain is hot; the valleys can still hold snowmelt and a closed track into June. Sleep by the river or among the orchards, and treat a Pyrenean day as its own expedition.
The Seu Vella is a hilltop walk. Do not arrive at the old gate in a motorhome and hope the slope widens.

Heat on the orchard roads is easy to underestimate because the driving feels simple. Shade the van at lunch, and do not leave fruit, milk or dogs in a closed cab.
