Plan your pickup and your first stop
Interlaken sits between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz so that people can reach the high valleys, and a campervan collected here is already in the Bernese Oberland.
Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen are close. The roads into those valleys are the point: narrow in places, busy in summer, and uncomfortable for an oversized motorhome. The peaks themselves are often a train ride from a village where the van should already be parked. Winter and summer are different kinds of traffic, not different postcards of the same easy drive.
Driving is on the right. Collecting here means you skipped the plateau approach that a Bern or Zurich start still has ahead of it. Village overnight rules are strict. A handover in Interlaken is the depot, not every hotel between the lakes.
Pick one valley for the first full day and a campsite that can take your actual vehicle. Do not try to see both valleys and a lake loop before supper.
Use the trains for the high villages when the road is the weaker idea. The van’s job is the valley floor and the journey between lakes.
