Hiring a campervan in Geneva

Geneva is the international lake city at Switzerland’s southwestern corner, French-speaking, with the French border essentially at the airport and in several suburbs.

A campervan handover in the city contends with traffic and with a three-way choice: stay by the lake, follow the north shore toward Lausanne and the Lavaux vineyards, or cross into France toward Chamonix on a mountain road. The Jura rises behind the city. The old-town edges and the quays are a poor fit for a large motorhome.

Driving is on the right. A vignette matters when you use Swiss motorways, and French roads bring their own rules the moment you cross. A city depot is not every lakeside commune. This is not a high-valley village start like Brig, and not the German-speaking plateau of Zurich.

A few things worth knowing

Confirm whether France is allowed on this rental, then choose shore or border and stick to it. An accidental lap of the city helps nobody.
