Plan your pickup and your first stop
Brig is a small town on the Rhône in the Valais, and a campervan handover here assumes mountain driving the same day.
The Simplon road and tunnel turn toward Italy. The side valleys lead toward famous viewpoints, with the catch that Zermatt is car-free: the van stops down the valley, at Täsch for the train, rather than in the resort. Passes around the Valais close in winter. The tunnel is the all-season idea, and it still has vehicle rules.
Driving is on the right. German and French meet nearby, and Italian is just over the pass. This is not a lake-city break. A Brig collection is the town depot, not a key handover in every alpine hamlet.
If Zermatt is the visit, book the valley site and the train, and do not follow a navigation pin into a restriction. The resort will not make an exception for a campervan.
Check the day’s pass status before you aim at Italy or at a high valley. Have the tunnel or the valley-floor alternative ready.
Drive on the right, keep the vignette question settled if you used the motorway to get here, and sleep in a proper campsite. Mountain pull-outs are for looking, briefly, from a parked and safe vehicle.
