Plan your pickup and your first stop
Cagliari (Selargius) is the inland reading of the south: Selargius sits on the Campidano plain, east of Cagliari’s hill quarters and away from Poetto’s beach traffic.
It is a town of ordinary streets and agricultural edges, useful precisely because it is not the Castello. A campervan can treat it as a supply and a night on flat ground, then leave toward the Sarrabus coast at Villasimius or north into the island’s interior.
Do not come here for a waterfront. Come here to stay out of the gulf city’s restricted climbs and to start the next morning already pointed at the coast road or the nuragic country. The salt pans and the Castello remain a separate visit, by design, when you want the postcard.
Use Selargius as the practical stop it is. Do not hunt for a scenic bay in a residential street; take a formal pitch or a designated area on the edge.
The drive to Villasimius looks short and becomes a resort approach in summer. Leave early and decide the overnight before you are in the queue.
Returning to Cagliari’s hill for an evening walk is reasonable. Returning with the idea of parking in it is not.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
