Plan your pickup and your first stop
Cagliari stacks the Castello quarter above a wide gulf, with Poetto’s beach on one side and salt pans and flamingos at Molentargius on the other.
The upper streets are steep, paved in history, and covered by the usual ZTL logic. A campervan does not climb them for the view. The view is available from outside, and the drives that suit the vehicle run west along the Costa del Sud toward Chia, or inland toward the nuraghe of Barumini.
The south of Sardinia is drier and more open than the cork valleys of the north. Wind, salt and long beaches shape the days. Sleep out by the shore or on the plain, and come into the city for the marina and the hill as a person.
Leave the Castello to your legs. A pin at the top of the hill is a walking destination.
Poetto looks endless and still has limited patience for a motorhome parked in a beach lane. Use a proper pitch and walk or cycle to the sand.
The Costa del Sud is slower than the map. Start early, and do not chain it with a city errand and an inland nuraghe in the same short afternoon.
