Plan your pickup and your first stop
Toronto is a vast lakeside city, and the first fact of a campervan here is traffic.
Pearson sits in Mississauga, west of the core, so an airport handover can join a highway without a downtown crossing. A city depot means you have already chosen the grid. Niagara is the famous short drive, along the QEW, and it ends in tourist congestion at the falls. The better campervan country is north: cottage lakes, then Algonquin and the Shield, on roads that slow down as soon as they get interesting. Prince Edward County is the eastern alternative, rural and closer than the north woods.
The 401 is wide, dull and fast until it is none of those things. Friday afternoons in summer belong to cottage traffic. Most Toronto neighbourhoods are not places you can collect a van.
Match the handover to the exit. Pearson suits a west-then-north or Niagara plan; a downtown depot adds the core before any of that. Do not cross the city twice on day one.
If Algonquin is the goal, break the journey. It is not a side trip after a falls morning and a flight.
Book the first site outside the urban area. Cottage-country weekends fill up, and a motorhome has fewer casual options than a car with a tent in the boot.
