Plan your pickup and your first stop
Thessaloniki is a city collection in northern Greece, spread along the waterfront, with a centre of ordinary streets and an older upper town.
The van belongs on the way out: toward the Halkidiki peninsulas, along the coast, or southwest toward Mount Olympus and, if the week is ambitious, the monasteries at Meteora. This is mainland driving. It does not need a ship to make sense.
Greek island logistics still exist in the country, and they are the wrong frame for a handover here. You can reach ports, yet building a Thessaloniki week around a sailing wastes the north, which has beaches, pine hills, and long interior roads of its own. Use the city for supplies and a walk on the front, then sleep beyond the tightest streets.
Exit toward Halkidiki or the Olympus road rather than circling the waterfront in the van.
Keep island ferries off this itinerary unless one specific sailing is the reason you came north.
Choose overnight stops that state a vehicle length. Peninsula villages look open until the summer cars arrive.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
