Plan your pickup and your first stop
Rouen’s cathedral and its half-timbered streets are the Norman set-piece, stacked on the Seine in a centre of cobbles and one-way lanes.
Monet painted the facade; a motorhome should not try to frame it from the roadway. Walk the old town, then take the campervan downstream toward Honfleur and the estuary, or north to the chalk cliffs of the Côte d’Albâtre.
This is the Normandy that makes Provence feel like another climate. River mist, cider, and a coast of pebbles and cliffs replace plane trees and mistral. The roads are busy near the city and quieter in the pays de Caux. Étretat’s famous arches are a walk from a village that clogs quickly; the van belongs back from the cliff, on a pitch with a turning circle.
Refuse any route through the timbered centre. The Gros-Horloge quarter is a foot street in spirit and often in law.
Honfleur’s old harbour is a basin surrounded by tight streets. Admire it on foot. The approach with a motorhome is the mistake everyone in front of you is also making.
Cliff car parks at Étretat overflow. Go early or accept a longer walk from a stop sized for your vehicle, and do not spend the night in a viewpoint lay-by.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
