Riesa is an Elbe town in Saxony, upstream of Meissen and well short of Dresden, with a steel-town history and a wide floodplain.

The campervan virtue is that width. You are not solving an island old town. The river road and the bridges are the local map, and the B169 connects you onward. Downstream, Meissen's castle sits above the porcelain town, which is a walk from a car park below. Upstream and north, the plain runs toward quieter Elbe villages and the edges of the Düben country.

There is no cause to treat Riesa as a substitute Dresden. Saxon Switzerland is a further drive downstream, past Meissen, and it has its own sandstone scale. Riesa's job is the honest river start: wind on the plain, a working bridge, and a quick decision about which bank you want.

Use the bridge you intended and stay on it. Riesa's local streets are fine until a pin tries to show you the river from a works entrance.
