Plan your pickup and your first stop
Regensburg sets its Stone Bridge and the UNESCO lanes on a Danube bend that a campervan should admire from the eastern districts, near the A3, rather than from the bridge itself.
Kreuzhof and that side of town are the workable start: modern, close to the motorway, and pointed away from the cathedral maze. The old bridge is pedestrian. The lanes behind it are a university crowd on foot.
Downstream, the Danube narrows toward Kelheim, the Befreiungshalle and the Altmühl valley. Upstream and east, the country opens toward Wörth and the Bavarian Forest. Walhalla stands on its bluff above the river just east of town, a viewpoint with a coach problem if everyone arrives together. The limit is geometry, not a missing ring road.
Set the pin to Kreuzhof, the A3, or a Danube pitch, never to the Stone Bridge. The bridge will not admit you, and the streets that try are worse.
Kelheim and the Altmühl in summer are a reservation. The gorge looks vast from the Befreiungshalle and has very few places a van may spend the night.
Walhalla's approach clogs when coaches overlap. Go early, or accept the view from a legal bay farther along the bluff rather than creating a fourth lane.
