Plan your pickup and your first stop
Paris Orly names the southern side of the capital, the plateau and the suburbs around the Orly airfield, as distinct from the northeast airport at Roissy and from the commune portrait of Orly itself.
For a campervan, this side is a departure platform. The A6, the forest of Fontainebleau and the long roads toward the Loire and Burgundy begin here. The Latin Quarter does not.
You can fly into the southern airfield and still treat the day as a road day: collect or simply start, then be among trees before lunch. The low-emission streets of central Paris stay behind you if you resist the urge to “just pass through”. A night in the forest or on the edge of the Seine south of the built-up area is the shape of a good exit.
Aim the first hour south. A detour to the Seine in Paris adds the ring road and none of the trip you came to drive.
Fontainebleau’s palace approaches are busy and coached. See the forest trails and the town from a properly sized stop, not from a convoy of tour buses.
If you are flying home from the southern airfield, keep the last night on this same side of Paris. The geography only works if you do not spend the week north of the city and then race back.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
