Fields, the Maisach stream and a railway crossing are the handover scenery. The Marienplatz is not in this postcode. The A8 is the nearby motorway, west toward Augsburg or east toward Munich's ring. The Ammersee lies a short way south, via Inning and the low country around the lake's north end.

Munich's Umweltzone begins inside the Mittlerer Ring, far east of this yard. Augsburg, if you drive west into that city, has an Umweltzone of its own. Mammendorf itself is a small-town exit: you are on open road almost immediately, which is the reason the collection lives here. The Alps are a longer first day than the map of Bavaria suggests, and they can wait until the van is fuelled and the night is chosen.

A few things worth knowing

  1. 01

Do not set the first pin to central Munich out of habit. If the city is the visit, aim at the A99 and a specific outer target, with the green Umweltplakette already fitted.

  2. 02

The Ammersee's northern villages have lanes that dead-end at boathouses. Park where the through-road still has room, and walk to the water.

  3. 03

Augsburg's inner Umweltzone is real if that city is the stop. Passing it on the A8 does not require the sticker; entering the old-town side does.
