Plan your pickup and your first stop
Marseille Airport sits at Marignane, on the Étang de Berre, northwest of the city and within reach of Aix-en-Provence.
The handover is at the airport, on the lagoon side of the agglomeration. It is not a pickup at the Vieux-Port, and the drive you want does not pass through the Panier to get started.
From Marignane you can go north to Aix and the Luberon, west toward Arles and the Camargue, or south only if you have a clear reason to meet the coast. The Corsica ferry, if the van itself must sail, leaves from the port in the city, which is a separate trip from this airfield. For a first night, the country between the lagoon and Aix is the calm choice.
Decide among Aix, the Camargue and the ferry before you leave the airport. The three exits are different roads, and the city lies between you and the port.
Give the handover its own hour. A late flight and a sunset booking in a Luberon village is how unfamiliar vans meet unfamiliar lanes in the dark.
Returning, sleep near the Étang de Berre rather than in Marseille. The airport morning is short if you do not have to cross the centre.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
