Hiring a campervan in Malsch
Malsch, in the district south of Karlsruhe, sits where the Alb valley leaves the Rhine plain and the northern Black Forest begins.

The handover is an industrial edge, the Daimlerstraße kind of estate, not a palace square and not a trailhead. Karlsruhe is a short run north. Bad Herrenalb and the climb toward the high forest are the other way, up the valley.
Karlsruhe runs an Umweltzone in its fan-shaped centre. Malsch does not ask for a sticker to leave town. Vineyard slopes and the first fir stands are minutes up the Alb. The B3 is the sensible spine until the valley road takes over. This is a forest start that happens to have a motorway city nearby, not a city start that happens to see trees.
A few things worth knowing
- 01
Turn up the Alb unless you have a real reason to go north. The industrial estate exits both ways, and the wrong way is the one signed toward the city you just avoided.
- 02
If that city happens, Karlsruhe's Umweltzone wants the green sticker before the radials. Malsch itself is outside it.
- 03
Bad Herrenalb and the upper valley pitches are a warm-weekend reservation. The lower industrial towns are not a substitute landscape if you arrive too late.
