Those passages are pedestrian by nature, and the centre sits inside a low-emission zone. A campervan visit is a walk from an outer stop, then a decision: south along the Rhône toward Provence, or east into the Chartreuse and the Vercors, the front door of the Alps.

The Alpine direction is seasonal in a way the Rhône valley is not. High passes beyond Grenoble, including the Galibier and the road over the Iseran, open in the warm months and shut with the first serious snow. Lyon itself does not require that gamble. You can eat well, see the rivers, and still sleep in the countryside of the Ain or the northern Isère, where a motorhome is ordinary.
