Plan your pickup and your first stop
Limburg stacks half-timbered houses under a cathedral on a rock above the Lahn, and that inner core sits in an Umweltzone.
The campervan asset is the A3 junction, one of the straightforward Cologne–Frankfurt connections, plus the valley road that follows the Lahn toward Weilburg. The old lanes under the cathedral are a walking climb. They are not a handover loop and they are not a shortcut to the motorway.
A green Umweltplakette is the rule in the inner zone. The Westerwald to the west is forest and small resorts. The Taunus to the south-east is the other hill country, shared with the Frankfurt side of the map. The river between them is the gentle first hour if you resist the autobahn for a while.
Fit the green disc if you will enter the inner Umweltzone at all. The cathedral is inside it, which is where the pretty pin sits.
Park below the old town and walk up. The descent is steep, cobbled and full of people who are not expecting a reversing motorhome.
Cyclists on the Lahn path spill onto the valley road at every beer garden. Pass slowly, and do not plan a night in a riverside pull-off that exists for the bikes.
