Plan your pickup and your first stop
Leutkirch stands in the Württemberg Allgäu north of Isny, close to the A96 and to the Wurzacher Ried, a raised bog with a famous boardwalk.
The town gates are narrow on purpose. A campervan uses the bypass and the motorway link, then chooses: west and south into the Allgäu pastures, or east along the A96 toward Memmingen and Munich, or toward Lindau and the lake. The bog is a walk from a dedicated car park, not a place you drive beside for the view.
The Tannheim valley, farther south, crosses toward Austria. That is a vignette decision and a mountain-road decision, not the same thing as a Leutkirch afternoon. The town itself has enough timber and enough towers to justify a stop on foot.
Use the signed bog car park for the Wurzacher Ried. The boardwalk is not approached by meadow tracks, however firm they look.
If the Tannheim valley continues into Austria, buy the vignette before the climb, not at the last village.
Winter divides these options sharply. The A96 usually remains the reliable exit when the valley roads south of Leutkirch are snowy or merely closed to anything hesitant.
