Leipzig keeps its inner streets in an Umweltzone, while the campervan landscape is the Neuseenland, the chain of flooded mining pits south of the city.

Cospuden and Markkleeberg are the names people use. Augustusplatz, the Nikolaikirche and the arcades are a walk or a tram ride once the van is outside the zone. A green Umweltplakette covers the inner requirement. The A9, A14 and A38 do the long-distance work.

South, the lakes turn quickly into beaches and marinas that were open-cast mines a generation ago. East, the land runs toward the Mulde and eventually Saxon Switzerland, which is a different day. North, the Düben Heath is pine and quieter than the lake shores. None of these require a lap of the ring road in front of the station.
