Hiring a campervan in Korbach

Korbach is a twin timber town in Waldeck, between Kassel and the Edersee, and the two old centres are for walking once the van is on the ring.

Altstadt and Neustadt sit close together, half-timbered and proud of it, with streets that were built for a cart. The B252 and B251 are the roads that actually leave: toward the reservoir, toward Kassel, or south-west toward Willingen and the uplands.

The Edersee is the landmark, and its shore changes character when the water is low. Exposed banks and temporary roads are not an invitation to improvise. The Kellerwald to the east is forest with narrow entries. Willingen, to the south-west, adds ski-weekend traffic in season. Korbach itself is the calm yard between those moods.

A few things worth knowing

  1. 01

Walk the twin centres from an edge car park. A pin on the town church will take you into a street you cannot politely leave.

  2. 02

Check the Edersee level only in the sense of reading local notices about closed ramps. Do not drive onto an exposed bank because it looks firm.

  3. 03

Willingen weekends in snow season fill the approach roads with people who also have roof boxes and no hurry. If that is your evening, be on the road earlier than the slope closing time.
