Plan your pickup and your first stop
Karlsruhe spreads in a fan from the palace, and that geometric centre sits in an Umweltzone.
Tram tracks follow the radials, which makes the palace square a poor place to discover your turning circle. The A5 runs on the Rhine plain, the A8 strikes east into the northern Black Forest toward Pforzheim and Stuttgart, and the A65 reaches toward the Palatinate. Those are the campervan roads.
A green Umweltplakette is the inner-city requirement. The Black Forest climb, once you are east of the fan, changes the trip within half an hour: vineyard slopes, then fir, then the high road toward Baden-Baden and the Murg valley. The Rhine itself, to the west, is working river and harbour, useful and unpretty.
Fit the green disc before you cross the inner radials. The Umweltzone is the centre of the fan, which is exactly where a lost navigation pin wants to go.
Baden-Baden's famous streets are a walk from an outer car park. Do not trail a motorhome along the Lichtentaler Allee because the park looks open.
Sunday traffic on the Black Forest high road is a procession. If that road is the plan, go early or pick a valley pitch and drive the ridge on a weekday.
