Plan your pickup and your first stop
Isny is a small walled town under the Adelegg, in the Württemberg corner of the Allgäu, and the gate streets are what you walk after the van is already on the bypass.
The walls are real, the centre is short, and a motorhome that follows a pin to the church finds a pedestrian understanding rather than a through-route. The landscape starts immediately: wooded ridges, dairy farms, and the drop toward the Eistobel gorge.
Oberstaufen lies over the hills to the south-west, a different valley and a different afternoon. East, the land eases toward Leutkirch, but that motorway connection is a separate idea from a day spent under the Adelegg. Winter closes the minor ridge roads while the town itself stays ordinary and reachable.
Park outside the walls even if the navigation insists the church has a street. The street ends.
Check the ridge forecast in winter and in late autumn. A road that is open at the bakery may be shut two bends later, and the turnaround is somebody's farmyard.
Dairy traffic uses the same lanes early in the morning. If you are leaving at that hour, wait out the milking run on the bypass rather than meeting a tanker inside a hamlet.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
