Hanover, signed Hannover, spreads along the Leine with an Umweltzone in the core.

The Neues Rathaus, the Maschsee and Herrenhausen are visits you walk to after the van is parked outside that core. A green Umweltplakette is the city rule. The A2 crosses east-west, the A7 north-south, and together they are the campervan map.

North is the Lüneburg Heath. South-west is the Deister, a modest wooded ridge with village resorts. South-east along the A7 the Harz begins to matter. North-west, the Steinhuder Meer is the easy water, a broad lake in a peat landscape. All four are more useful than a loop of Georgstraße.

A few things worth knowing

Fit the green disc before any errand inside the Umweltzone. The Maschsee looks like a bypass and still sits against the restricted core.

If a fair is on, sleep outside the city and enter on a train. The fairground side of town is where tall vans lose an hour.
