Plan your pickup and your first stop
Frankfurt is a motorway knot on the Main: the A5, the A3, the A661 and the A66 wrap a skyline you do not need to drive under.
The Römerberg, the Zeil and the Sachsenhausen lanes are walks. An Umweltzone covers the inner city, and a green Umweltplakette is the rule inside it. The airport sits south of the river and generates its own queues, separate from the old-town problem.
The holiday exits are distinct. West is the Rheingau, vineyards along the Rhine. North is the Taunus, with the Feldberg as a popular and chaotic high point. East on the A66 runs toward Fulda and the Rhön. South is the Bergstraße and the Odenwald. All of them are better than a loop under the bank towers.
Navigate to an autobahn junction rather than to the Römer. The inner Umweltzone is simple to enter and tedious to escape in a tall van.
Fit the green disc before any downtown fuel stop. The zone boundary does not wait for you to notice the skyline.
The Feldberg summit is a poor first-night target. The high car park clogs, and the roads down are slow after dark. Use a Taunus valley pitch instead and visit the summit when you can leave the van lower down.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
