Plan your pickup and your first stop
Flensburg runs down a long fjord to the Danish border, and the harbour streets of rum warehouses are for people on foot.
The campervan shape of the town is the A7, which begins its long run south here, the coast road east toward Glücksburg and the Holnis peninsula, and the short hop north to Kruså. Wind, brick and water are the scenery. An Alpine hairpin is a different country.
Denmark, immediately north, does not sell a vignette for a private van, though Danish towns have their own parking discipline. The Schlei and the fishing towns of Schleswig, to the south, are the gentle German continuation if you are not crossing the border on day one.
Park above the harbour and walk down. The lane to the waterfront is the one that looks inviting and then refuses a three-point turn.
If you cross into Denmark, check the day's rules for any city you plan to enter there, and carry the usual vehicle documents. The border itself is a junction, which makes it easy to cross without meaning to.
The fjord is exposed. A high van on the Holnis road takes the wind seriously, and cliff-top or beach car parks are not overnight pitches.
