Plan your pickup and your first stop
Düsseldorf (Mülheim) is a handover in Mülheim an der Ruhr, along the Kölner Straße side of that city, a short motorway hop from Düsseldorf and not a stop on the Königsallee.
Mülheim is its own place: the Ruhr river, industrial heritage, and ordinary urban junctions. Düsseldorf airport is the nearby long-distance arrival, not the Altstadt.
Mülheim lies in the Ruhr Umweltzone, and central Düsseldorf has its own. A green badge is part of driving these urban streets even though you never collect beside the Rhine promenade. The A40 is the fast east-west. The Ruhr valley paths are for bicycles. A van that tries to follow the river towpath mood on a parallel lane will meet width restrictions and parked cars.
Assume the Umweltzone applies as you leave the yard and fit the green disc before the first urban kilometre. Both Mülheim and inner Düsseldorf are sticker cities.
Do not follow a cycle-route overlay along the Ruhr. Use the A40 until you have a specific town you intend to walk.
Shift changes and airport peaks stack up on the same roads. If you are collecting near a weekday rush, join the motorway and do the sightseeing on the far side of it.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
