Constance, signed Konstanz, stands where the Rhine leaves Lake Constance, with the Swiss town of Kreuzlingen grown against it.

The Niederburg and the old harbour lanes will not take a motorhome. A campervan day here uses the B33 along the western shore toward Radolfzell and Überlingen, or the vehicle ferry toward Meersburg and the northern shore, and treats the old town as a walk from a signed car park.

The real borders are physical and administrative: the Swiss line is a street, not a distant checkpoint, and the Swiss motorway vignette applies if you use their motorways. Mainau and Reichenau are close, and both involve narrow approaches and summer crowds. The lake road is the spacious one.

Book the Meersburg ferry as a vehicle, not as a passenger idea. Space on the boat is the constraint, and a hopeful arrival on a sunny Saturday is how plans slip.

Buy the Swiss vignette before you need it if a Kreuzlingen shortcut is even possible. The border can appear as an ordinary junction.
