Broome is a small pearling town on Roebuck Bay, and collecting a campervan here means you have already accepted the Kimberley as the trip.

Cable Beach is the famous edge of town. The rest is distance: Perth is a multi-day drive down the coast, Darwin is a long haul east, and the towns in between are service stops rather than cities. Horizontal Falls and much of the Buccaneer Archipelago are boat or air outings; the van waits.

The wet season, roughly November to April, is not a mood. It closes the Gibb River Road and can cut the Great Northern Highway. The practical driving season is the dry, when the red dirt is open and the nights are cooler. A handover in Broome is the town depot, not a pickup scattered along the peninsula.

A few things worth knowing

Arrive with a dry-season plan and a list of fuel stops. Derby, Fitzroy Crossing and Kununurra are not around the corner, and running light on diesel out here is a trip-ending mistake.
