Plan your pickup and your first stop
Brandenburg an der Havel is a river city of three historic islands, and the campervan version of it starts on a commercial street at the edge rather than on the Dominsel.
The cathedral, the mill quarter and the Neustadt bridges are the walk. Cobbles, tight bridge approaches and residents' parking make the islands a poor place to learn the length of your van.
The Havel opens into the Beetzsee, the Plauer See and a chain of quieter water that is the real reason to begin here. The A2 runs south of the city and is the fast line toward Magdeburg or back toward Berlin's ring. What limits you is geometry: bridges, cobbles and residents' parking.
Cross the islands on foot. If a navigation pin points at the cathedral, stop at the first signed car park on the mainland side and assume the last five minutes are a walk.
Lake pitches in summer are a reservation question, not a hope. The Beetzsee shore looks large and still fills.
Flood marks on the Havel are not decoration. After heavy rain, low river roads and some campsite tracks close while the A2 stays open. Have that motorway as the dull backup.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
