Bastia is Corsica’s Tyrrhenian port, closer to Italy than Ajaccio is, with a citadel above a tight old harbour.
Vehicle ferries connect it with Marseille, Toulon and Nice, and with Livorno, Savona and other Italian ports depending on the season. Arriving with a campervan means exiting the port and choosing a direction before the old quarter narrows.
North is Cap Corse, a finger of mountain and marine hamlets where the road is scenic and slow. South is the eastern plain toward Aléria, faster and flatter, with beaches set back from the highway. West over the mountains toward Saint-Florent or Corte is a different day entirely. Pick one for the first afternoon. The port city itself is the supply and the stroll.
Match the ferry port to the route. A Bastia landing suits Cap Corse and the east; it is a long mountain transfer if the first night is meant to be on the west coast.
The Terra Vecchia lanes and the old harbour are walking ground. Rejoin the van on the modern avenues and leave before evening traffic stacks up at the port.
Fill fuel and water on the plain. Cap Corse villages do not assume a motorhome will need a service point at supper time.
