Umeå is a northern coastal city on the Ume River, a university town and a practical gate between the High Coast to the south and Lapland to the north.
Collecting a campervan here means you have skipped the southern cities on purpose. Stockholm is many hours down the E4. The Bothnian coast is low and long, not fjord-vertical like Norway. A ferry runs across the Gulf to Vaasa in Finland, a separate booking if the van is crossing, and a different trip from a Swedish coastal week.
Driving is on the right. Winter lasts, and the light in midwinter is short. A city handover is not every campus or riverside neighbourhood.
Choose High Coast, inland forest or the Vaasa ferry before handover, and book night one accordingly. The three are not one loop.
If you are crossing to Finland, book the van and check the port time. The river city is not the ramp.
