Hiring a campervan in Stockholm

Stockholm spreads across islands, with a congestion-tax zone and a medieval centre that is no place for a motorhome.

The archipelago is mostly passenger boats. A campervan trip that collects here is about leaving: toward the lake country and Dalarna, onto the long E4 north, or south toward Skåne. Ferries to Helsinki and Tallinn leave from specific terminals and need a vehicle booking if the van is going. Gamla Stan is a walk from a legal park, not a driving destination.

Arlanda lies well north of the city. An airport-side start and a city handover are different exits even though this page is the city. Driving is on the right. Elk become a rural night issue once you are out of the suburbs. A depot is not every island neighbourhood.

A few things worth knowing

Ask the depot how to leave without the tightest islands, and pay attention to the congestion-tax rules the rental expects.

If the van is boarding a Baltic ferry, book it and go to the correct terminal. A harbour view in the centre is not the ramp.

Park at a proper site outside the core for night one. Once you are on smaller roads, dusk is elk time; be stopped rather than heroic.
