Plan your pickup and your first stop
Reykjavik Airport is the domestic airfield pressed against the city, the one used by flights from Akureyri, Egilsstadir and other towns.
A campervan handover here is urban from the first minute: streets, traffic and a short hop into the capital grid, not the open lava beside the international terminal. It suits someone who has flown in from the north or east and wants a southwest continuation, or the reverse journey at the end of a northern leg.
Do not confuse it with Keflavik. The names share a capital and describe different islands of tarmac, an hour apart in good weather. This page is the city airport desk, not a pickup on every block around the runway.
Confirm the airport name on the booking against your ticket. Domestic Reykjavik and international Keflavik are the classic mix-up, and the drive between them is not a quick correction with a motorhome.
Leave for a booked site rather than circling the city. If you just flew down from Akureyri, you do not need to sightsee from the cab on the same evening.
Watch the wind even in town, and give yourself daylight. A small urban airfield still delays, and an Icelandic delay is a weather delay.
Your next adventure is a few clicks away.
