Hiring a campervan in Limerick

Limerick is a river city on the Shannon, more useful as a door than as a place to circle in a campervan.

North, you are quickly into Clare: Bunratty, then the Burren, Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher as a proper day. South, Killarney and the Kerry border are the other direction. The centre and its river crossings matter because they get you onto the N-roads, not because the van should be exploring the quays.

Shannon Airport sits on the estuary and is a separate handover, closer to Ennis than to a Limerick street. Driving is on the left. A city depot here is one collection point, not every housing estate along the river.

A few things worth knowing

    Point night one either into Clare or toward Kerry, and do not try to see the cliffs and the Ring of Kerry on the day you collect the van.

  2. 02

    If you are also looking at an airport handover, choose it when the flight is at Shannon and the city has no role. Driving into Limerick only to drive out again wastes the estuary’s simplicity.

  3. 03

    Book summer sites, expect tour-coach traffic at the main cliff viewpoints, and keep the van in a proper park rather than on a village lane.
