Hiring a campervan in Dublin

Dublin is a bay capital, and the practical campervan exit is the M50 rather than the quays.

Wicklow and Glendalough are the southern first day, on roads that climb quickly out of the suburbs. Galway, the Cliffs of Moher and the Wild Atlantic Way are a cross-country drive, slower than the motorway kilometres suggest and too far to bolt onto a collection afternoon. The city centre, its bus lanes and its river bridges are a poor place to learn a large van.

Dublin Airport is its own page, north of the city. Ferries to Britain leave from Dublin Port, a specific terminal, and the van needs a booked deck if it is sailing. A city handover is not every neighbourhood between the docks and the mountains.

A few things worth knowing

  1. 01

Match the depot to the exit. A central handover plus a northern plan means the city twice. The airport page exists so that northbound and westbound trips need not begin on the quays.

  2. 02

If you are sailing, book the vehicle on the ferry and add the port time to the day. A city collection does not put you at the ramp.

  3. 03

Book a site in Wicklow or beyond for night one. Do not improvise on a residential street or in a mountain car park that is signed against overnight stays.
