Split is built into Diocletian’s palace, and those lanes are steps, stone and pedestrians.
The Riva and the palace are on foot. Ferries to Brač, Hvar, Vis and Korčula leave from the city port, so the vehicle is either staying on the mainland or joining a deck you have already reserved. Marjan hill is the green walk above the western shore.
The airport is west toward Kaštela and Trogir, a separate drive from the palace. Summer traffic on that road is its own event. A pitch near Trogir, or behind Marjan, keeps the old town as a visit.
Reserve the ferry with the vehicle dimensions before you collect the van, if the island is the point of the trip.
Leave a buffer between an airport handover and any drive into Split. The Kaštela road crawls on summer afternoons.
Sleep outside the palace district. Walk in for the evening, and leave the camper where it can still get out in the morning.
