Odense is Funen’s city, inland from the island’s southern harbours, with a compact centre tied to Hans Christian Andersen and a ring of quiet fields.
It is the calm pause between Jutland and the Great Belt bridge to Zealand. The old streets are a walk. The camper stays outside them and uses the E20 when it is time to move.
The ferry ports are south, at Svendborg and Faaborg, toward the smaller islands. Odense is where you shop and sleep before that drive, on flat roads that are kinder than they look on a tight timetable.
If an island south of Funen is the goal, drive to the ferry port in daylight with the vehicle ticket already held.
Keep the camper out of the old centre. Walk in for the Andersen quarter, then leave the same way.
The Great Belt is a better morning drive than a tired evening crossing after a late handover.
