Bratislava is a compact capital on the Danube, pressed against the Austrian and Hungarian borders, with the castle above a small old town.
You can walk the centre in a short afternoon. A camper belongs beyond the old streets, on the outer side of the river or past Petržalka, and many trips treat the city as a single night between Vienna and the Slovak interior.
The Small Carpathians start just north of the city, a quick change from embassy streets to vineyards. The motorway east is the longer Slovak journey, vignette in place.
Time the castle walk for after the meeting point is settled. An airport collection northeast of the Danube and a depot in the city set up two different afternoons.
Have the rental’s consent for Austria or Hungary. Both borders are close enough for an accidental evening crossing.
